Each year, the city of Arles hosts the world-renowned Rencontres d’Arles photography festival. Photographers, professionals, curators, collectors, and photography lovers from Paris and beyond head south, trading the grey pavements and white buildings of the capital for the warm light, colorful facades, and vibrant life of Provence.

For a few days, Arles becomes a living gallery — filled with exhibitions, conversations, and spontaneous encounters in streets, courtyards, and old chapels.
The city, radiant and intense, embraces the crowds and the creative energy.

As the days go by and evenings stretch on, a kind of fever settles in — a mix of heat, inspiration, fatigue, and artistic excitement. The festival becomes a rhythm of its own, where photography, art, and real life blur together.

Between Mulhouse and Strasbourg, waiting for my connections, I step out of these stations I know so well. I don’t really want to be there, but I force myself to photograph: tourists, architecture, empty spaces.
I wonder if I can get something out of it, even while forcing myself.

I often say that traveling is first and foremost about rediscovering landscapes we know by heart. Photography is a life school that forces me into discomfort, to stand still when I want to run, to slow down when everything pushes me to hurry.
Photographing means learning to look with fresh eyes, allowing myself to rediscover shapes, streets—everything.
I quickly grow tired of things, of repetition, sometimes of others.

Makeup and hairstyling he doesn’t like, but he accepted it for the shoot.
After 30 minutes of posing and breaks, he is tired but patient, eyes vacant, breathing steady.
He waits quietly, despite the discomfort of the makeup and hair.
